The Edit Authority is the independent creative home of a seasoned TV editor. After years of working across some of the UK’s biggest productions as an in-house editor, Nick launched The Edit Authority to work directly with broadcasters and production companies.
It’s all about bringing experience, creativity, and calm editorial judgment to every project, whether jumping into a fast-turnaround series or shaping a powerful story in post. Friendly, professional, and always focused on the bigger picture, The Edit Authority is where Nick’s expertise meets flexibility and a genuine love for the craft of editing.
Nick is an offline and online editor as well as a colourist, with almost 40 years experience.
He started his career at the BBC, working at Lime Grove as an engineer and then a recording operator, moved into the commercials world at Rushes as an edit assistant, and then on to Visions as a linear editor. From there Nick has worked as a senior editor at 3DTV, TSI and Evolutions.
He has a long and varied credit list spanning entertainment, factual, reality, promos, titles, documentary, and drama, specialising in quiz shows, panel shows and game shows.
Now he’s a freelance creative and owner of The Edit Authority.

Nick King is the finest video editor I’ve worked with in 30 years in television, and I’ve worked with the very best. He is nothing less than a magician of the genre. His fingers play the desk like a musical instrument, literally blurring as they pass over the keys at light speed. Not only this, but he is a gentleman, a philosopher and an astronomer of the first order. He makes you laugh and he makes you think. He converses when you need to chew things over, and he is silent when it is seemly. When you are absent, even more brilliantly, uncalled-for stuff is done invisibly, when you are out of the room at night and in the morning before you arrive. This man will transform your work and yet he will never take a shred of the credit. Book him, I beg you (when I am on holiday).
Nick is a killer synthesis of technical mastery, speed, efficiency, impeccable taste, and good company. Really, a pleasure to work with as well as a highly-accomplished and multi-skilled editor. Trust me on this!
There’s nothing to worry about when Nick is driving the edit. He’s problem solving often before you clock the problem. He’s fast not furious, has a great attention to detail, and is great company in the suite.
Nick is the king of online editors. Accept no substitutes. He pours such love, care and attention into every job, and yet still manages to be ridiculously quick and somehow still find time for erudite conversation. A scholar and a gentleman, he’s the very best.
